Welcome to the 202 Preservation Project

What is the 202 Preservation Project?

The 202 Preservation Project is a comprehensive effort led by the Bridge Street Development Corporation (BSDC) to revitalize HUD Section 202 housing across New York City. The goal is to assist owners of Section 202 properties in securing funding and technical assistance to preserve their properties.

Why is it important?

Section 202 housing is a critical resource that allows older adults to age in place.  Unfortunately, many Section 202-funded buildings are now in various states of physical, financial, and organizational distress. Section 202 properties are often owned by smaller community-driven or faith-based organizations, who have limited resources and capacity for building renovation.

Preserving these properties is essential for maintaining affordable housing for our cityโ€™s aging residents. The 202 Preservation Project will help ensure buildings are functional, safe, and affordable for seniors into the future.

The 202 Preservation Project Roadmap

The 202 Preservation Project is a comprehensive effort to revitalize Brooklynโ€™s Section 202 housing. The goal is to ensure that owners of Section 202-funded propertiesโ€”particularly smaller organizations with limited capacity and/or resources, which constrain their ability to leverage economies of scaleโ€”can effectively access and deploy funds, and receive technical assistance to keep buildings functional, safe, and deeply affordable for residents into the future.
