Bridge Street Development Corporation Holds Green Informational Workshop
May 19, 2010
Bridge Street Development Corporation (BSDC) and Brooklyn Botanic Garden are beautifying our community one block at a time. On March 18th, we gathered leaders of block tenant merchants in Bedford-Stuyvesant for a “Green Theme Workshop”. With a presentation by Karla Osorio of Greenbridge, the community environmental horticulture program of Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the event focused on “How to Make Brooklyn Beautiful”, and included caring for trees, plants and shrubs in our neighborhood.
Ms. Osorio also introduced the many incentives the Garden offers to the community such as “the Greenest Block in Brooklyn” contest, a plant giveaway for community gardens and a tulip bulb giveaway for blocks that are entered into the Greenest Block contest.
Do you live on a beautifully landscaped block or association want to organize your neighbors to create one? If so, applications are available now through June 1st for the Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest which is open to all residential and commercial blocks in Brooklyn. To enter, you must be part of a homeowners association, merchant organization, community garden, civic organization or school. First prize is $300 and other prizes of cash and garden tools will be awarded. For information and applications, call 718-623-7250, or visit bbg.org/greenbridge.
Also, Brooklyn Botanic Garden has a team of professionals that will visit you right on your block or at your building, to assist with projects your block club, tenant association or other civic group has in mind.
Whether or not you have a green thumb, we can all go green for Bedford-Stuyvesant with one of our community’s greatest assets, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
